Newcastle's Transfer Secrets Revealed: No Buy-Back Clauses for Anderson and Minteh, Plus Plans for Trafford and Dubravka
he latest news reveals that Newcastle United did not include buy-back clauses in the contracts of two of their young players, Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh. This includes Anderson, who has been performing impressively with Nottingham Forest, raising questions among fans about the possibility of a future return to Newcastle. However, sources confirm that no such clause exists in his deal. Similarly, there is no buy-back provision in the agreement for Minteh, who joined Brighton in June.
Newcastle's transfer negotiations for both players were influenced by the club's need to balance its finances and comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules, as failing to do so could have resulted in a points deduction. These moves were necessary to meet financial requirements, and the deals have satisfied the club's PSR calculation.
Anderson's form has led to regret within the Newcastle camp, as his recent performances have showcased his potential. He was even included in a Premier League XI from the first half of the season, as compiled by Sky Sports. The feeling of loss among staff and players has intensified with his successful spell at Forest.
In addition to these developments, Newcastle's head of recruitment, Steve Nickson, has been monitoring Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. Though no deal is expected in January, Newcastle plans to revisit a potential signing in 2025, with Trafford's skills, particularly his distribution, aligning with the club’s goals for a future No. 1 goalkeeper to compete with Nick Pope.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, who is receiving interest from Saudi Arabia, is being urged to stay beyond January, as Newcastle value his current role as first-choice goalkeeper, especially with Pope sidelined due to injury. Pope’s return to full training is expected by mid-January.
In terms of player injuries, Alexander Isak, who had a hamstring scare against Arsenal, is expected to avoid long-term injury, and Sven Botman, who felt tightness in his groin during the same match, is expected to be fit for upcoming games. Botman, who has just returned from a long-term knee injury, received high praise from his teammates, with many showing support during his recovery.
As for the FA Cup, Botman is expected to be rested, with Fabian Schar and Lloyd Kelly likely to start at center-back.
